Chemical, Physical, and Computational Biology in the Post-Genomic Era

Structural Biology & Biophysics

The component programs of PIBS, Computational Biology & Bioinformatics (CBB) and Structural Biology & Biophysics (SBB), complement one another. The faculty, students, and research interests within each program overlap and training can take place in both programs. Please visit the web sites of each program to learn more about them. If you decide that you would like your graduate school application considered by the admissions committees of both programs, follow the instructions below. This will allow you to avoid submitting two applications. Contact Jennifer Avery (919-684-0881) for more information.

How to Apply to PIBS

1. Go to the Duke University Graduate School's Online Application site (see link below)

2. Create an account.

3. Follow the application instructions.

4. On the "Application Information" page, follow these instructions for the following three fields:

     A. "Proposed Department /Program and Highest Degree Sought" :

Select a program from the following list:

Computational Biology and Bioinformatics - Ph.D.

Structural Biology and Biophysics - Ph.D.

     B. "Special Field or department"

               IMPORTANT: Enter "PIBS"

     C. "If you plan to apply to more than one department ":

DO NOT enter a second program from the above list.   We will make sure that the admissions committees from the above programs see your application.

If you wish to apply to another department or program not on the above list and are willing to pay a second application fee, then enter that name in this field.

If you follow these instructions, we will consider you to be an applicant to PIBS and will handle your application as an application to either of the two graduate training programs: Structural Biology & Biophysics and Computational Biology & Bioinformatics, and it will be reviewed by the selection committees of both programs.
